With the fitness and formation sessions of pre-season all under the belt for the senior teams, first team coach Michael Janssen insists he is happy with the progress of his squad.
One aspect in particular, that has pleased the German, is the togetherness and camaraderie on show at each session.
“The players know each other from last year and each player is keen to continue working on our way to play football,
“The chemistry in the group is very good and everyone wants to help achieve results,” Janssen said.
With a large majority of the squad comprised of last year’s team that recorded the club’s most ever points in the division, the head coach has welcomed the continuity while also adding strength and depth to key areas.
“The new players give us more competition on each spot in the team and they have all integrated well,
“With Joel Martin, Jie Kong and Tim Robertson in midfield, we have more quality,
“Joel Prout steps into our squad from last year’s U18’s, Max Welton in defence and Patrick Morrison in the attacking department are definitely players to watch this season,” he said.
UWA were unlucky to not reach the knockout phases of the Night Series competition, however, Janssen remains adamant the pre-season performances were very encouraging.
“The whole picture looks promising,” he said.
“The focus is on the 8th of April (Round 1 v Dianella) to be prepared and reward ourselves for the hard work,” Janssen added.
The first team take on Quinns FC in Round 3 of the FFA Cup this Saturday, the 1st of April away at Gumblossom Park from 3:00PM.
