Following on from Uni's historical 3-1 triumph over Ashfield and bye round last weekend, Michael Janssen's troops are fresh and ready to take on a Canning City side desperate for their first win of the campaign.

With the squad's intense April now behind them, which included four matches in the final fortnight, the head coach is determined to continue their impressive form as they host Canning.

"We've started to reward ourselves as a unit for our performances with three points and will now look to continue this positive development as much as possible," Janssen said.

"We were able to use the weekend off to get some well-needed freshness back in the leg, as well as improve on some areas for the months ahead," he added.

Despite Canning's inability to gain a single point thus far, the entire team is wary of the physical and organised threat the south of the river outfit possess.

"The games are always a challenge against City," the German insisted.

"They will try to surprise us and deliver their best to collect their first points of the season," Janssen added.

Last season's match-ups still resonate with club captain Josh Marocchi, as they both ended in 1-0 wins for the respective hosts, with UWA inflicting revenge at The Mac following the early season loss in 2016.

"We can expect a very tough encounter after last year's displays," the skipper stated.

"Canning are a very difficult team to break down as they defend strongly and play as a unit," he added.

UWA will be boosted with the fitness of full-back Brandon Naude (knee) and midfielder Luke Randazzo (ankle), with the pair pushing for selection this week.

Experienced defender Marco Warmt-Murray is close to returning to full fitness after a serious foot injury while cult figure Kamando Sikazwe has left the club.

Kamando will be dearly missed by everyone at UWANFC after many years at the club. The entire UWA community would like to wish him all the very best for the future.
