Match Preview: Uni face Dianella in Night Series

The boys in green continue their Night Series campaign with another late Friday night fixture.

The squad were in high spirits during training this week following their profound win against Swan, but skipper Josh Marocchi has emphasised the importance of continuing this form.

"After a great start to our Night Series, it's vital that we back up our performance this week and continue to build on the solid start," the centre-half insisted.

"As a team in 2018 we need to take significant strides forward and become more consistent week in and week out, so this Friday presents the perfect opportunity to show our progress."

"Competition amongst players is at an all-time high so I expect the boys will be putting their best foot forward as they look to cement their position in the side," he added.

On a night where the university side netted eight goals, there were many standout performers, with Marocchi heaping praise on a number of new signings.

"Overall the performances of Zeke [McPherson], Ben [Meredith] and Mark [Trevisiol] were of a high standard and their quality was on full display last week."

"Joe Haydon has been exceptional this pre-season as well, he's come on leaps and bounds over the summer. Sam Carrello is like a new signing for us this season as well, it's fantastic to see him back out there with us after an extended injury lay-off due to his Achilles surgery."

Dianella, who enjoyed a 2-1 win over Ashfield in their opening fixture, are typically a difficult challenge for any side and Marocchi cannot wait to face their fellow State League rivals.

"They have many skilled players across the park, they are quite resolute in defence and certainly strong up top with the likes of Angel Andreas."

"It's matches like this against quality opposition that we must look forward to as a way to really test ourselves against the best."

In team news, influential midfielder Luke Randazzo will miss the match-up as he prepares for the Rottnest Swim, while Conor Devlin continues to work back to full fitness after a groin injury sustained late last season.
