The club is pleased to announce that First Team Head Coach Michael Janssen has signed a two-year contract extension.
The news comes following a 6th placed finish in the State League Division 1 in his third year with the senior side.
Janssen, who joined the club in 2016, has achieved great progress with the First Team having achieved the club’s highest ever finish in the State League with consecutive 5th placed finishes (2016 and 2017), as well as a highest point tally of 30 points (2017).
The German coach is delighted to be continuing his work alongside a squad that has maintained its core group, which is a testament to his work over the past three seasons.
“I am very happy about the way we worked together over the past three years at UWA,” he said. “Through the entire group of people who took responsibility in this period of time we moved the club forward.”
“It’s a pleasure to be involved with the club. It definitely makes it easier to reach the targets with people dedicated to the same philosophy.
”The next two years provide us the opportunity to continue what we started to get even better results in each department.”
Director of Football, Gerhard Janssen, highlighted the fact that the extension was signed before the end of the season, back at the end of July, such was UWA’s confidence in the Head Coach and his direction.
Despite having finished the season just over a week ago, Janssen is already planning for pre-season and what’s to come in season 2019.
“We want to continue the work we started with the senior teams and work as hard as we can to perform our brand of football in the best way to climb up the ladder. Our focus is on the players we trained over the last three seasons, including the league winning 18’s and the upcoming 16’s, who recently won the Top Four Cup Final.
“We will definitely add a few players from outside the club as well to have a different impact on our unit to refresh the squad and to intensify the competition.
“We will extend the First Team squad from 20 to 24 players. It’s great to have 16 current players already committed to 2019 from our 2018 squad and our pre-season will offer some positive surprises for the squad to make sure that each player is on his maximum level of fitness and match ready.
“It’s the club’s 70th anniversary in 2019, so we are keen to achieve some more historical results, but this is all dependent on how we manage to prepare and I can promise you that I am prepared for this.”
The extension marks the stability of the senior setup, with the news also followed up with Vinny Kapur, Assistant First Team Coach, re-signing for another season.
Kapur enjoyed his first campaign with the First Team in 2018 and enjoyed league success with the UWA U15’s side who took out the Top Four Cup Final last Sunday.
Exciting times ahead for the club with the core group of players, coaches and staff committing themselves to the cause.
