Michael Janssen's men mixed it with the best and certainly held their own in the 5th Round Cup tie, as they had the NPL league leaders under severe pressure throughout the 3-1 loss.

UWA started brightly, with Robbie Black forcing Sorrento keeper Jame Morgan into a stunning acrobatic save from a free-kick just outside the area following a foul on Alex Kretowicz.

Lloyd Prout was inches away from opening the scoring with a diagonal ball finding the winger at the back post, but his volley dribbled out for a goal kick.

The chances kept on coming in the first half for UWA with Prout at it again skinning Jacob Shore and delivering a cross along the box to Kretowicz who again forced the keeper into a smart save.

Sorrento settled into the game and started to enjoy more possession but were restricted to long-distance strikes.

On the stroke of half-time, the hosts took the lead through Reece Vittiglia. The skipper fired home an absolute rocket from around 25 yards to give Sorrento the lead.

It was a tense second half with clear-cut chances few and far between.

The momentum well and truly shifted at the 58th minute with Kretowicz levelling the ledger with a breakaway run and composed finished to the bottom left corner.

Uni were dealt a cruel blow with 20 remaining as Sorrento regained the lead from the penalty spot. Patrick Morrison was ruled to have fouled Scott Witschge just inside the area.

It was 3-1 in the dying stages, with the hosts tapping into an empty net just minutes following Kretowicz's lob over the onrushing keeper landed on top of the net.

It was a gallant performance from the Uni boys who bow out of the FFA Cup with their heads held high after a fantastic run that included the scalp of  knocking out NPL side Subiaco.
