UWANFC is extremely excited for what 2018 has to bring and can’t wait to commence pre-season on the 9th January.
With all results considered, the club is pleased with its achievements across the board as it continues to grow. When looking back upon our initial targets for 2017, we believe these have been achieved, but we’ll be looking to press on with our development in the new year.
At times our effort and performances were not rewarded with maximum points, but the way we grew together as a unit in terms of comradery, footballing chemistry and our own unique brand of football, are major positives positive to take from the season.
For 2018 we laid the foundations for further progress straight after the completion of the season with player meetings. All 22 players from the 2017 squad committed for the upcoming campaign to make the next step or two on the existing level of football.
Influential midfielders Andrew Xydas, Conor Devlin and Tim Robertson didn’t hesitate to commit for 2018 regardless of offers from other clubs, as well as the club’s top goal scorer, Alex Kretowicz, who thrived off the creativity around him. With the talents of Mordecai Kuma (Most Improved Player Award winner), Rory Devlin, Thomas Moroney, Joe Haydon and Brandon Naude now in their third year, we can expect some more influence on the pitch. The return of Bryce Conway and Sam Carrello from long-term injuries will serve as “new signings” to the squad, with Max Welton set to enjoy his first full season at UWA. Talented winger, Luke Randazzo, has also signalled his intention to continue with the club, as the 24-year-old cited his ambition to help bring the squad to the next level in 2018.
The first team is also boosted by the news that Head Coach Michael Janssen is back for his third consecutive season, while Viny Kapur has been appointed as Assistant Coach following two years with the U18’s side.
With all the aforementioned players locked in for season 2018, the team will be looking to hit the ground running when pre-season begins on the 9th of January at 6.30 PM, with sessions starting at the same time on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s each week. New players are welcome to join us in our ongoing training to challenge the squad with opportunities still available to play next season.
