Wanneroo City SC 1 – 2 UWA Nedlands FC

Alex Kretowicz’s double was enough to see UWA Nedlands claim a hard fought win over a resilient Wanneroo side. Kretowicz’s second half brace saw Michael Janssen’s side go equal top with Joondalup United in Group A of the State League Night Series.

UWA struggled to stamp their authority on the game in the opening quarter, with play breaking down in the final third despite great build up play from the midfield quartet of Bryce Conway, Conor Devlin, Will Conway and Andrew Xydas. Midway through the first half an optimistic long ball from the Wanneroo centre-back found its way to their winger, who made no mistake heading it over UWA goalkeeper Ranjeet Singh.

The remainder of the half saw a few chances fall to the feet of Alex Kretowicz, but the crafty forward was unable to put them in the back of the net.

The second half quickly ran the same course as the first, with UWA dominating possession and finding themselves in good areas by utilising the wide areas to great effect. After 15 minutes of frustration, UWA was gifted a goal through a poor back pass by Wanneroo. Alex Kretowicz collected the ball 30 yards from goal and made no mistake dribbling around the keeper and levelling the score.

UWA found the deciding goal 15 minutes from time as Andrew Xydas superbly played the ball into the path of Alex Kretowicz and Kretowicz calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner to give UWA the win.

Janssen's men will play Quinns FC at 6:30pm this Friday the 12th of February at the Kingsway Sporting Complex as they continue their night series campaign.
