JOEY SPRING LEAGUE 2024

Continue with the fun in Spring. Team registration now open. Players can play with their friends in school based teams. Open to Kindy, Pre-primary, Year 1 and Year 2 teams.

Joey Soccer Spring League 2024

Joey Soccer is an initiative of UWA-Nedlands Football Club that started in 2009. The program now has over 950 children playing from 25 different schools on Saturday afternoons, during the winter terms. Joey Spring League will run for 6 weeks from Saturday 24 August. New schools are always welcome.

Joey Spring League will run at UWA Sports Park. UWA SPORTS PARK MAP

The game format for Joey Soccer is based on the Football Federation of Australia (FFA) small-sided games (SSG) model. The teams play 5-a-side football with simplified rules. This format provides maximum fun with simplified rules and minimal emphasis on winning and a full focus on enjoyment. It is the perfect way for your child to enjoy the benefits of being part of a team, make friends and stay active.

Key Dates for Joey Soccer Spring League

  • Monday 29 July 2024 - Team registration opens.

  • Monday 12 August - Player registration opens.

  • Saturday 24 August - Session 1

As a school-based football program, the team registration will be set up by the Team Manager from the school and your child can then register for the team, with their own details. Your child will be able to play soccer with their school friends and make new friends along the way. Each team consists of 7-10 players (maximum depending on year groups) from the same year group with 5 on the field at any one time. Players are grouped according to their year at school. Teams can be formed in year groups from Kindy up to Year 2 for girls and boys (mixed or single-sex).

Session Times

  • 1:15 pm - players arrive - warm up and drill.

  • 1:30 pm - Start of game (2 x 20 minute halves)

  • 2:15 pm - Finish

Joey Soccer Training

We do offer additional training for our Joey Soccer players. Sessions will be on Wednesday afternoons at UWA Sports Park, from 4:30pm to 5:15pm. Year 3 players are invited to join the club’s Skills Acquisition program and MiniRoo Spring League.

Kit and Equipment

Players will require a Joey Soccer ball and match shirt. If you have these already, from the winter program, you do not need to purchase again. If you do need to purchase, you can grab online and collect at the first session. UWANFC KIT STORE

Each player will need their own shin pads (compulsory for games), long socks, shorts or skirt, football boots or trainers, a personal drink bottle and sunscreen.

Matthew - Joey Soccer Player

“We have got four kids and have got three through and a fourth one in a couple of years, it is just a lot of fun. Kids out there running around, giggling, laughing, scoring the odd goal. It’s perfect.”
